About Caren

My name is Caren Jelagat, a Computer Science student, a community advocate and a woman who believes that purpose gives a crown its meaning.

My journey has taught me resilience, compassion and the importance of believing in yourself even when you don’t always feel enough. Being a 1st Runner Up at Miss Heritage Kenya showed me that pageantry is not simply about beauty, it is about finding your voice, representing something greater than yourself and using your platform with purpose.

Through my involvement with Smile Charities, I have participated in community outreach, including visiting children’s homes and homes caring for children with disabilities. These experiences opened my eyes to the stigma, misconceptions and exclusion that many people living with disabilities experience. They made me realize that sometimes what people need most is not sympathy, but understanding, acceptance and an opportunity to be heard.

This is why I am passionate about inclusivity. I want to learn from people living with disabilities, listen to their families and caregivers, understand the challenges they face and help challenge harmful misconceptions,particularly the belief that disability is caused by witchcraft or curses. I believe education can replace fear with understanding and help us build communities where everyone is valued and given an opportunity to participate.

As I prepare to represent Kenya at Miss Heritage International, I carry more than a crown. I carry the stories, values and heritage of my country. To me, Kenyan heritage is about our diversity, our resilience, our spirit of community and our ability to come together.

I want to represent Kenya with pride and grace, but more importantly, with purpose. I want my journey to remind someone who feels unseen that their voice matters, their differences do not diminish their worth and they deserve to belong.

Because to me, heritage is not only about the traditions we preserve,it is also about the values we choose to pass on.
